folktune.org is a collection of folk tunes in the ABC Notation format. It's a collaboration between a few different websites to build a central place for ABC tunes. It currently has about 200,000 tunes.
Lots of websites collect ABC tunes. This is a central place to help those sites co-ordinate and share tunes.
Use one of the member sites. Different sites do different things. Try them all out!
The tunes are found on websites across the web. Some tunes are contributed directly, some are sent in directly, some via web crawlers. Each tune page points to the place it was found.
ABC is a music notation format, created by Chris Walshaw. It's used by musicians around the world to write down tunes, and to typeset into dots.
folktune.org is a collaboration between people who run ABC websites. If you want to share your ABC tunes so others can use them, this is the place to do it. Sharing your tunes on folktune.org means that they will be correctly linked and attributed back to your site, and available to anyone who wants to use them in their own tools. All the software that runs this platform is open source.
